Three Words That Changed Everything: It Is Finished

Three words from the cross that changed what faith actually means.

Scripture

John 19:30

As Jesus hung on the cross, His final words before He gave up His spirit were: "It is finished."

Story

What actually happened

Not "I am finished." It. His mission — the reason He came — was complete. The debt sin had built up was paid in full. The sacrifices offered year after year, generation after generation, were no longer needed. The perfect offering had been made once, and it didn't need repeating.

Meaning

What this still says to us

Those three words changed what faith actually is. If the work is finished, then faith isn't about adding to what Christ did — it's about receiving it. You don't earn what's already been paid for. You don't polish what's already been declared complete. The cross wasn't the end of hope; it was the moment hope stopped being something you had to build yourself.

That changes the question most people carry around quietly: have I done enough? The answer was never meant to come from you. It was already spoken, from the cross, once, for good.

Prayer

Lord, thank You that it is finished — not almost finished, not finished if I keep trying hard enough, but finished. Help me stop reaching for what You already gave me, and just receive it today. In Jesus name, amen.
